Con gain from Lib Dem. Our total vote was practically unchanged from 2003 (Jacky 876, Fred 850), but the much higher turnout favoured the Tories.

The By-Election was caused by the resignation of the Conservative Councillor.

Con hold. Although we substantially increased our share of the votes cast (from 33.3% last year to 40.7% this time) we did not quite manage to beat the Conservative.

EUROPEAN ELECTION 10 June 2004 - EASTERN REGION - RESULT DECLARED SUNDAY 13 JUNE 2004

Elected:
Conservatives: 3 Seats
UKIP: 2 Seats
Liberal Democrats: 1 Seat
Labour: 1 Seat

Andrew Duff is the Liberal Democrat MEP (Member of the European Parliament) for the Eastern Region.

The turnout figure for the Eastern Region was 36.6 %. The total electorate was 4137210, out of which 1514084 people voted.
The turnout figure for the South Norfolk District Council area the was 39.20%, the electorate was 90733, out of which 35565 people voted.

The turnout figure for the Hethersett Ward was 31.2%, the electorate was 4363, out of which 1362 people voted.
(Turnout in 1999 was 24%).
